.......................................................
at the center of this picture is where i am currently sitting...
This image was taken from an application called Google Earth which is a free downloadable software. It is currently on its version 4 and at this release, major cities, including Baguio City could be viewed at a resolution clear enough to see the roof of your house or the car you parked near a roadway. On version 1, quite interesting that the Bulacan and Angeles Part have higher resolutions than that of NCR. From the image above, that dark rectangular area is the Burnham Lake which is tainted by colored spots which are actually boats for rent (After staying here for four years, honestly, I have never yet ridden on one of these). That circular grayish thing is the Skating Ring.
Google earth maps the whole earth by embedding images captured by aerial satellites to a 3D globe. On paid versions, devices such as GPS(Global Postioning Systems) could be integrated to map a location where they are currently working. This is specially useful for mountaineers or travelers around the globe to document their path for future considerations.
Aside from these features, Some places are integrated with digital terrain models that were gathered by NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography. This means seeing some major structures like the Mounts Everest or Mountains of Baguio in 3D. On major cities like New York, 3D buildings are embedded to specify what is actually standing on that part of the Globe.
Because Google Earth was made by Google which is predominantly Americans, more detailed and helpful information could be found on US (including locations of coffee shops and phones). The search engine is biased for locations and states of US. Some names are also not updated which angered neighboring countries because of naming an area as a territory of the others. I think the images used was gathered about 3 or 2 years ago because the building near my 5th apartment is not yet there.
