Let me tell you a story,A story very sad,About a world turned upside down,For a certain mom and dad.
They had a couple teenage twins,Who were on the honor roll at school. They were liked by all their teachers,And their peers thought they were cool.
They both excelled at football,And were captains of the team. The world was handed to them,On a platter so it seemed.
Both of them were seniors,With just a dozen days to go.They had scholarships to Kansas,With dreams of turning pro.
Senior Prom was May the 20th,It was a night to party loud,A night no matter what you did,You'd be untouchable like a cloud.
Jake and Joe knew what they had,A future paved in gold,With pen and paper in their hand,To write the greatest story told.
Both of them knew right from wrong,They knew the pressures that they faced,For if they gave in just this once,It could kill the dreams they chased.
When they arrived to party,They saw a dozen kegs or so,But figured they'd be pure as rain,If they stood their ground with, "No."
"Hey Jake and Joe, how 'bout a drink? We've got some Miller and Miller Light.""No, thanks," said Jake, "I'd rather not,I think I'll drink some Sprite."
"Oh come on Jake, it's just a drink,Don't be a wimp my friend.""Hey, Jonny, look, I just said no,Now don't you ask again."
Jake and Joe both watched their friends,Pass out upon the floor. They sat and watched for hours now,And couldn't take it anymore.
All around the floor they saw,Their friends in puke and beer,And up upon the ceiling,Food on the chandelier.
They got up and grabbed their things,And out the house they soared,To leave the house that made them sick,And jump into their Ford.
Jake and Joe both slammed their doors,Started the car and shifted to drive. They smiled and laughed and hollered aloud,Just happy to be alive.
Jonny came staggering behind them,As the boys drove down the street,"No fair, you've got ahead of me,But Jonny won't be beat."
Jonny climbed into his truck,Painted black with a stripe of blue,"Nobody's faster than Jonny Day,I'll show the two of you."
Jonny spun his truck around,Then put the pedal to the floor."I'll show you boys who's faster now,And who the chicks adore."
Jonny never slowed a bit,He was blowing by cars like wind,He saw a Taurus in front of him,"There you are," he grinned.
Jonny saw some lights ahead,Red lights blinking and coming down,And the Taurus in front had come to a stop,Jonny's grin was now a frown.
He screamed and hollered and honked his horn,But hit the Taurus in the back,And sent Jake and Joe full steam ahead,Onto the railroad track.
Jonny watched in terror,As the train plowed through his friends,And watched their hopes and all their dreams,Come to a bitter end.
Jonny knew just what he'd done,And he knew exactly why,But he was shocked and numb still yet,To shed a tear and cry.
How could he have done this,What will the people say,"Oh God, I pray, please help me,Help sinner Jonny Day!"
He climbed out of his pickup truck,Still deeply horrified. He walked out onto the railroad track,Sat amongst the wreck and cried.
This story may be fiction,False, without an ounce that's true,But no one is beyond this,Not even me or you.
So when you decide to drink,Please keep us all alive.Enjoy yourself and have some fun,But please don't drink and drive.
